The Oncology department at the TCI Hospital provides a range of modern and much-needed facilities to the residents of all the Turks and Caicos Islands.
An Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist works full time to assess and support both patients and their relatives and manage care via Out Patient visits through to long term In Patient admissions. A visiting Oncologist from Jamaica holds a clinic every month to review patient’s progress, clinical and psychological needs and to promote quality of life.
Chemotherapy is administered in CHMC in addition to supportive therapies such as blood transfusions and pain relief. Treatments include chemotherapy (oral or intravenous), biological therapies and additional treatments such as hormone therapies and bisphosphonates. The unit encompasses both acute and chronic needs from neo-adjuvant and adjuvant treatment through to palliation and symptom control.
Cancer care is managed between the Oncology unit for ambulatory patients, the General Ward for patients requiring 24 hour care and a 24 hour on-call service for patients requiring assistance and advice outside office hours.
A one-to-one personalised service is offered to all patients to ensure that individual needs are identified and addressed according to the patient’s desires.
Promoting quality of life through all aspects of the service is fundamental to achieving ongoing patient satisfaction and offering gold standard care.
