TCI Hospital receives ‘Diamond’ Accreditation, a third time

(Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands – Monday 09th July, 2018): InterHealth Canada – Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital has been ranked ‘Diamond’ for the third consecutive survey, which is the highest ranking under the Accreditation Canada International (ACI) Qmentum Program. The official results were released last week and revealed the company’s compliance with 100% of thirty-three (33) Required Organizational Practices (ROP’s) established by the international body, and a high performance in other priority areas within the fourteen (14) International Service Standards.

ACI is internationally recognized for promoting excellence in healthcare. A full-site survey is conducted every three years to retain accreditation status. Successful facilities are awarded Gold, Platinum or Diamond status in accordance with the quality of service and care delivered to patients. The Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital received Diamond awards in March 2012 and March 2015. A third accreditation evaluation was completed on June 11th-15th 2018, following a three-month extension due to hurricane recovery efforts. During the assessment, a highly skilled team of independent overseas surveyors conducted a meticulous evaluation of the hospital’s operations, from leadership practices to service delivery procedures. The evaluation included interviews with over 30 hospital teams, a review of dossiers of evidence for every department to justify compliance with ACI standards, meetings with community representatives and groups, and spontaneous tracer exercises with randomly selected patients and staff members.

Turks and Caicos Islands Hospital, privately managed by InterHealth Canada, remains among the elite 37% of an estimated 243 ACI internationally accredited medical facilities currently listed as Diamond, and the only facility in the Caribbean region. The receipt of such an award signifies that the standard of acute-secondary health care services provided at TCI Hospital is comparable to facilities in countries such as Brazil and United Arab Emirates, which have a concentration of Diamond accredited medical centers under the ACI International Program. These facilities are measured against the same standards.

The ACI assessment system of quality management and technical competence is comprised of the following areas: competence of personnel; methods validated and verified; traceability of measurements; calibration and maintenance of equipment; the safety of patients; the environment; the assurance of the quality of results and appropriate interventions. Commenting on the three-time award, Chief Executive Officer of TCI Hospital, Gaston Levac said: “Having seen numerous medical facilities in my time, it has remained evident from the commencement of my tenure that TCI Hospital is a gem, and provides extraordinary value for money. I have tremendous respect and pride for the professional and dedicated people who deliver high quality health care services every day to the community. We are elated to have received the highest ranking once again following an extremely rigorous process.”
